A song you remember from your childhood

Chura ke Dil Mera

Bollywood was dope in my childhood. Most of these 90s’ songs today will feel outright ridiculous, but they’re guilty pleasure songs. I mean the choreography sucks, the lyrics are nonsense, the actors have no idea what they are doing but they oblige because they’ve been paid for it.

But the songs are evergreen. I mean for the oldies, this was their foray into public expression of love, planting the seed of jealous and possessiveness, and moving beyond metaphors to say how much they mean to each other.

For those discovering these songs today, you can’t get better meme-worthy content. I mean pick any song — it just serves all the fun you want to poke at on a platter. But most important of all — all your remixes today are mostly the songs of the 90s. Because admit it, it’s so bad it’s good. These are the songs, where we unleashed our inner art in front of visitors at home — the real India’s got talent was not any reality show but matching steps to Bollywood songs on DD metro and dancing in the living room or hall as Bombay kids called it.

Take this song for example. Today, you’ll see hideous clothes, incorrect instrument playing, and some really weird locales. But, hear me out.

You’ll also see,
An epic walk on sand by the goddess of legs
An unmissable head bob on good hair days
An addictive tune that keeps you hooked.

This and many more such songs have been etched into the personalities of a 90s kid like me. They may not be great in terms of lyrics or visualization, but our rickshaw drivers played them on full volume and made us feel special each time.

Enjoy this song here.

ProTip: Since I am being generous today, do check out Tip Tip Barsa Pani, Shehar ki Ladki, Tu Cheez Badi Hai, Saat Samundar Paar, Jadu Teri Nazar, Pehli Baar Milein Hai, Dum Dama Dum, Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai, Muqabla, Khud Ko Kya Samajti Hai, Vaada Raha Sanam, Deewana Dil Deewana, Ye Kaali Kaali Aankhen, and the unforgettable Love Rap.

For November, I’ve taken up the 30-day song challenge, where I’ll post one song that meets a new prompt each day. One more day remains in this project. *Fingers crossed*
